Digital Designer

Walker Art Center seeks a Digital Designer to join its in-house creative team. As a creative technologist this role brings visual storytelling to life across web, wayfinding, exhibitions, electronic communications, and social media. The Digital Designer will support the Design Director and collaborate with other designers, curators, devs, educators, and marketing to ensure that every digital touchpoint at the Walker furthers our mission, serves our visitors and the public, and reinforces our brand. The Digital Designer will be responsible for design and oversite of all digital systems at the Walker Art Center including walkerart.org, electronic communications, environmental and wayfinding systems, and digital publishing for programming areas including Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Moving Image, Education, Marketing and PR, Membership and Development, and Design.
As a core member of the Walker’s legendary design studio the successful candidate will wield exceptional design and typographic skills alongside a fluency in WordPress and web development, UX/UI, social media, and all things screen-based. The Digital Designer will be in charge of art directing all of the Walker’s digital communications and will lead the front-end design of a revamped walkerart.org, bringing fresh eyes and new solutions, to the platform. This role is ideal for someone with fluency across media with a passion for contemporary art and cultural production and a desire to create compelling digital experiences for a diverse audience
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Website ownership: Manage and design walkerart.org, including updates, new page layouts, and coordination with external developers for feature implementation.
- Digital content design: Create motion and still content for screen-based platforms inside the museum, including wayfinding, event listings, and promotional features, working with IT.
- Advertising and marketing: Design digital ads for social media and digital billboards across the city in collaboration with the marketing team.
- Publishing support: Contribute to digital publishing across our three key platforms: the website, social media, and the Reader.
- UX/UI and prototyping: Develop wireframes and prototypes for microsites, exhibition features, or custom digital experiences.
- Email and e-commerce: Support the design and implementation of email templates, newsletters, and digital campaigns.
- Asset optimization: Prepare and maintain digital assets optimized for performance across screen types and devices.
WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
Minimum Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in digital design or a related field
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with WordPress or similar CMS platforms
- Experience working with third-party developers and managing digital builds
- Strong portfolio showcasing web, interactive, and screen-based work
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Interest in contemporary art, design, and cultural production

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), exempt. As an exempt position, it is not eligible for overtime pay. The compensation for this role is $61,300 - $65,000 annually.

This position is covered by the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) labor contract.
