Temporary Installation Support Technician

The Installation Support Technician is a part time role providing staff support for the Collections and Exhibition Management Department. Individuals in this role will report to the Associate Director of Exhibition Installation (ADEI). Project assignments will focus on supporting activities related to the preparation, installation and deinstallation of exhibitions, management of the Walker’s permanent collection, the maintenance and cleaning of sculptural artworks in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Walker hillside, and Terraces (including the surrounding grounds).
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Project Experience:
- Art Handling & Installation
- Gallery Preparation (ex: Wall Repair, Sanding, Painting)
- Exhibition Fabrication (ex: Pedestals, Risers, Mounts)
- Exhibition Crating (ex: Construction, Demolition, Packing, and Unpacking)
- Working atop ladders and mechanical lifts at heights between 6-16ft or more
- Loading and unloading of trucks
- Occasionally lead exhibition installation projects, as assigned
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge and skilled use of hand tools, power tools, moving equipment and mechanical lifts
- Knowledge and proficiency in the installation and operation of analog and digital media equipment, peripherals and related technologies
- Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted
- Basic carpentry and fabrication skills
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow written instructions, drawings, and floorplans
- Basic computer skills

WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
- 2 years museum or gallery experience, exemplifying professional practices in art handling & installation.
- Previous experience in the installation and operation & maintenance of audio-visual equipment in public or commercial settings
- Fabrication experience, knowledge of materials, techniques, and construction processes.
- Possess comfort and demonstrate competence while working at heights
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to lift 50lbs unassisted
JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered part-time (21-35 hours per week), non-exempt. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The compensation for this role is $25 hourly.
