The Walker Art Center is seeking an experienced and skilled Development Associate to support annual fundraising efforts and expand meaningful donor engagement with corporations, foundations, and government agencies, as assigned. This position secures general operating support for the Walker by managing the Corporate Annual Fund, which includes the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate members. The Development Associate also writes grants and seeks sponsorships to support Walker programs, projects, and special initiatives, and provides development support for the Education Council donor affinity group.

RESPONSIBILITIES will include:

  • Research, cultivate, solicit, and steward institutional donors, including corporations, foundations, and government agencies
  • Collaborate with curators/programmers, marketing team, CFO, and other staff across the institution to develop compelling grant and sponsorship proposals and reports
  • Manage the Corporate Annual Fund, including annual solicitation cycles, grant proposals, donor programs, and events
  • Oversee Corporate Annual Fund budget, tracking systems, and procedures
  • Manage donor acknowledgements, recognition, and benefit fulfillment
  • Provide development support for the Education Council donor affinity group
  • Collaborate with Director of Special Projects Fundraising, Chief of Advancement and other development team members on other initiatives, as needed.
  • Full-time 35 hours/week (requires some evening and weekend hours)
  • Salary $50-55k dependent on experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in institutional giving, Corporate Annual Fund programs, and/or grant writing.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and editing skills.
  • Exemplary communication skills to persuasively convey Walker’s mission and the impact of programs.
  • Demonstrated project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
  • High degree of initiative and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines while exhibiting sound judgment and discretion.
  • High level of computer literacy, including familiarity with online research resources, proposal submission engines, and donor databases.

Preferred Experience: work experience in the arts and culture field and/or at a non-profit organization; familiarity with arts and culture funders, Minnesota and/or national corporate and philanthropic communities; Tessitura experience.
