In our over 125-year history, we have become one of the most celebrated art museums in the country and we are known for our innovative presentations and acclaimed collections of contemporary art across the spectrum of the visual, performing, and media arts.
The Editor’s role intends to lead a longstanding digital publication that supports interdisciplinary arts writing with a community engagement lens; to commission and publish a diverse range of high-quality editorial content on mnartists.walkerart.org; to develop strategies for mentorship in the realm of arts writing; as well as act as a liaison to the Twin Cities artist community where required by the Walker.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Editorial (60%)
- Develop (Foster, mentor, support,) original arts writing for editorial platform in collaboration with writers: including brainstorming and assignments, reviewing pitches, developmental and copy editing, image selection, formatting and posting
- Build relationships with writers and maintain diversity of formats, disciplines, writer/artistc backgrounds, and etc. represented across the platform in accordance with mission
- Coordinate guest editor series and provide support/oversight for guest editors in accordance with mission
- Collaborate with colleagues on overall editorial strategy: mission, marketing, evaluation, web development, partnerships
Program, Partnerships, & Administration (30%)
- Help vision Mn Artists program direction and curation
- Design and implement Arts Writing Fellowship
- Mentor program writers contributing to Mn Artists programs, including cohort meetings, professional development and networking opportunities, and discursive programs.
- Build & maintain partnerships with local organizations and colleges & universities centered around arts writing and critical discussion
- Track program budget with Associate Director of Public Engagement
- Execute writer contracting, accounting, and administration
- Contribute towards fundraising plans for the program, with Head of PELI and Development team
- Collaborate with appropriate partners to provide direction for promotion of editorial content
- Fulfill institutional reporting as required
Cross-institutional liaison (10%)
- Participate in interdepartmental conversations and program planning relevant to digital publishing and coordinate with the Walker Reader
- Facilitate connections with local artists relevant to programming across the institution
- Attend PELI and WAC all-staff meetings
WHAT WE NEED IN YOU
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required
- Minimum of 5+ years of work as an editor, or comparable experience working with text and writers required
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience driving curation and strategy for a similar program or publication required
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and facilitating collaborative relationships with writers on a local and national level
- Knowledge of contemporary arts and a genuine interest in critical arts writing
- Experience with and knowledge of the arts landscape in Minnesota
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Detail oriented, self-starter with exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a creative environment both in a team capacity and working autonomously
- Exceptional project-management and program coordination skills.

- Experience working with a range of digital content platforms and familiarity with digital content workflows

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered part-time (0.6 FTE Assignment), non-exempt. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The minimum compensation for this role is $27.47 hourly. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
