Retail Sales and Operations Manager

The Retail Sales and Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Walker Art Center’s retail store operations. This role focuses on people management, sales activities, and ensuring exemplary customer service. The Store Manager will lead a team of retail associates to achieve sales goals and deliver an exceptional shopping experience for all customers.


WHAT YOU GET TO DO 

I. Financial and Sales Management

  • Partner with the Head of Earned Revenue Development to develop and manage the retail shop’s budgets and financial goals (sales, gross margin, profit, etc.), and work with staff to achieve these goals.
  • Analyze business metrics and identify areas for growth, developing and implementing strategies to enhance in-store sales.
  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations related to merchandise selection and display.

II. Store Operations 

  • Lead the Walker Art Center Shops’ retail, e-commerce, and wholesale business
  • Lead all aspects of in-store merchandising, including product display and inventory 
  • Establish and maintain sales and operations procedures and documentation
  • Oversee the customer service experience, ensuring that all staff are trained and modeling exemplary service standards.
  • Develop and implement strategies to build the customer base and drive customer loyalty.

III. Team Development 

  • Recruit, train, and manage retail sales associates, providing performance coaching and feedback to maintain motivation and achieve sales and customer service goals.
  • Schedule staff to ensure optimal coverage, aligning with budgetary constraints and business needs.
  • Foster a mentorship-focused environment to identify and develop future leaders within the retail team.

IV. Partnerships and Communication 

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure a cohesive retail strategy that aligns with Walker Art Center’s goals and vision.
  • Network with peers in the retail and museum industries to stay updated on best practices.
  • Develop vendor relationships, negotiate terms, discounts, exclusivity, etc.
  • Represent Shop as needed to the public, media, and retail community
  • Communicate relevant Shop information to staff and internal audiences

WHAT WE NEED IN YOU 

  • Minimum of 5 years of retail management experience, including people leadership.
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue and sales goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with retail POS systems and inventory management software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk
  • Prolonged periods of looking at screens
  • Able to perform extensive standing, walking, and climbing
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), exempt. As an exempt position, it is not eligible for overtime pay. The minimumcompensation for this role is $60,000.00 annually. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.
