Payroll and Benefits Administrator

The Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for overseeing all payroll and benefits administration, performing all activities necessary to maintain related records, systems, and procedures. This role will be part of the Human Resource team, and report to the Head of Human Resources.


WHAT YOU GET TO DO 

Manage and administer payroll

  • Lead the bi-weekly payroll cycle, manual or off-cycle payrolls, and transmission of payroll information to appropriate stakeholders
  • Audit and save pre and post-payroll reports; research issues or errors and determine resolution for a timely payroll submission
  • Review and approve all types of employment changes submitted by Human Resources; research and collaborate with the HR team to resolve workflow accuracy issues
  • Oversee management of supplemental payroll inputs such as garnishments, loans, or levies.
  • Liaise with auditors and the finance team to participate in and manage related audits
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for the time and attendance system processes and procedures, understanding all related pay benefits and policies
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws; maintains industry best practices
  • Resolve pay discrepancies and answer payroll-related questions
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures

Benefits Administration

  • Provide all employee benefit administration
    • Monitor and verify eligibility
    • Provide up-to-date information and resources to staff
    • Process enrollments and mid-year changes
    • Prepare all required and ad-hoc reporting and auditing requirements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits-related questions, partnering with team members and/or benefit providers to address any concerns or discrepancies
  • Responsible for all aspects of employee leave management (e.g. STD, LTD, and FMLA.) ensuring appropriate support documentation is obtained and maintained, educating staff on the leave process and options for pay and benefits continuation
  • Oversee the reporting through ADP to all benefits carriers. Create and provide manual reporting when necessary
  • Manage and implement annual open enrollment, including informational and/or help sessions;
  • Provide all 403b administration and testing: Partner with vendors to ensure the processing of new enrollments, terminations, and appropriate vesting status to plan
  • Provide HSA administration: oversee enrollments and terminations; monitor maximum annual staff contributions and partner with finance to ensure accurate plan funding
  • Flexible Benefit Reimbursement Plan: Prepare related reports, oversee new enrollments; and perform annual nondiscrimination testing
  • Cobra Administration: Partner with our third-party administrator to communicate appropriate employee changes and to ensure all necessary notices have been sent and documented; Process and track all COBRA invoices and payments
  • Audit, reconcile, and prepare all employee benefits billing
  • Assure all benefits practices comply with local and federal laws and regulations, leading necessary regulations/requirements changes.

Leadership and Teamwork

  • Work to achieve a common understanding of and commitment to the HR Team’s objectives and role model effective leadership behaviors
  • Provide regular and continual feedback and support to Walker leaders regarding Human Resources expectations, objectives, and policies
  • Proactively work with your team to encourage growth and development for all staff
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends and best practices within human resources, benefits, and payroll to ensure alignment of business objectives to the overall department strategy

WHAT WE NEED IN YOU 

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience of payroll experience is required and CPP certification preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience actively processing payroll is required
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience managing and administering employee benefits and retirement plans is required
  • Must possess a deep working knowledge of payroll/benefit administration systems (ADP Workforce now experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills: ability to establish and maintain records, systems, and procedures; detail-oriented and accurate in all operational tasks.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities ensuring work is completed on time and to expectation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on an interpersonal level with experience working with a diverse work population, demonstrating alignment with the Walker’s commitment to DEIAB
  • Ability to exercise professional discretion and confidentiality
  • Must display good judgment, solve problems effectively, and maintain a sense of perspective while working under pressure

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), exempt. As a exempt position, it  is not eligible for overtime pay. The minimum compensation for this role is $75,000 annually. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
