The Walker Art Center is seeking a Digital Content Intern to provide support for Walker Reader, a digital magazine that helps illuminate the ideas behind today's most compelling art through original videos, commissioned essays, curatorial perspectives, and artist interviews across programming verticals.

  

RESPONSIBILITIES will include:

Assist with production of Walker Reader:

  • Contribute to story ideation and content planning and write news summaries for the ‘Art News from Elsewhere’ section

  • Input and format text, upload and caption photos; transcribe interviews and edit select content

Assist with promotion of Walker Reader content:

  • Create Walker Reader email newsletters; track content for monthly reports; assist with social media on Walker Reader accounts

Create content for Walker Reader:

  • at select moments, conduct interviews and/or cover Walker events for publication

Assist with administrative tasks, such as contracts, invoices, and content scheduling, as needed  

OVERALL OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide hands-on and substantive experience with an in-house museum publishing process;  

  • Provide transparency into the workings of a major contemporary art center; and

  • Help cultivate skills to be able to identify, write, and publish compelling, audience-centric stories.  

HOURS AND COMPENSATION:

Schedule to be determined, 400 hours total from June through August 2019 (may shift based on avails – 3 months max); while this is an unpaid internship we provide a free Walker membership, museum discounts, parking reimbursement, and the opportunity to work alongside talented individuals and support remarkable artists, events and programming; if the applicant has the option to use the internship for course credit, the Managing Editor will work with the university to fulfill requirements, as possible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Reliable, detail-oriented, with knowledge and interest in the arts and publishing.

  • Experience with Photoshop, WordPress (or other content management system) is preferred.
