MnArtists is a 15-year project of the Walker Art Center, made possible by the support of the McKnight Foundation. The project consists of both physical and virtual elements – a website, featuring noticeboards and opportunity listings, a community platform, profile generation to showcase artists’ work, and local arts journalism; as well as public programs and events held onsite at the Walker and beyond – all designed to give robust support to the Minnesota artist community. The core aims of the project are to enrich discourse, create opportunities for collaboration, networking and opportunity finding, as well as cultivate audiences for Minnesota artists.

The Mn Artists Outreach Coordinator is an engaged member of the Minnesota arts community looking for work that connects their knowledge and interest in digital literacy with their desire to support their local arts community. The Coordinator is responsible for increasing access and expanding membership for the artist database, leveraging both digital strategy and live outreach.  


  • Site administration (helpdesk) including resolving technical issues and responding to website feedback and inquiries; coordinate digital outreach to facilitate website access to a broad range of Minnesota artists including special online projects and management of digital advertising.

  • Facilitate regional and rural Minnesota outreach workshops to assist artists in developing profiles and leveraging professional development tools on; represent Mn Artists at select events, festivals, and community gatherings.

  • Oversee community maintenance and growth strategy - develop and implement strategies to populate site with new users, facilitate workshops, and meet with field leaders and organizations to spread awareness and onboard users.

  • Assess audience needs through surveys, project observations, anecdotal information, and field research, feed these insights back into programming and project management.

  • Manage ongoing maintenance of site by monitoring analytics and site effectiveness, collate suggestions about site improvement, fixes, and server hosting from the site’s contract developers; track and report website and social media statistics for reporting and strategy development purposes.

  • Meet and communicate with Walker Art Center staff to execute projects that require cross-functional expertise and other ad hoc duties, as required.


  • Customer service focus with willingness to patiently help others.

  • Understanding of and connections to Minnesota’s arts and cultural fields.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook; applicants with strong web, social media and software proficiency are preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to work autonomously and effectively project manage tasks involving multiple deadlines and components; work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to understand and use appropriate analytics to evaluate and report on Mn Artists’ social media efforts and website; familiarity with and ability to use the site’s content management system and tools.

  • Must have a current driver’s license, access to transportation and willingness to travel intra-state.

Hours: 12 hours per week; availability for daytime, evening, and some weekend scheduling is required

Rate of Pay: this is an independent contractor (contracted) role for up to $23.00 per hour, and is not considered an employee of Walker Art Center.
